what can you do with softimage that you can't do in maya?

I just watched this really cool motion comic on aniboom.com and the guy who made it said he used Maya, Softimage XSI, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Photoshop, i've got maya and photoshop, but never used softimage. does it have tools that you can't emulate in maya? the motion comic was so cool , i wont to make it, any advice would be excellent

I'm able to purchase these at a low student price, being a student. I was wondering. Which one is "better" , so to speak.

Which one is more powerful/better effects?

Which one is easier to learn?

i heard houdini best for visual effects, it's particle system is better than other, and all other 3d tools also best so ....

Why lean Maya when you can lean Softimage/XSI?

When I first started learning 3D I learned Maya but after a few months my school started teaching Softimage XSI and so I leared it. The workflow seems so much better and it is so awesome. I know Maya is a great program and is used so much but I just love Softimage. What should I do?
