what can you do with softimage that you can't do in maya?

I just watched this really cool motion comic on aniboom.com and the guy who made it said he used Maya, Softimage XSI, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Photoshop, i've got maya and photoshop, but never used softimage. does it have tools that you can't emulate in maya? the motion comic was so cool , i wont to make it, any advice would be excellent
