What is the exact difference between Maya and Softimage?

Hello!

I read about the differences, but I'm a little bit confused, I would much appreciate, if somebody could give me some detailed information about
exact difference between Maya and Softimage.
Which is "better" or more useful to learn? I'm interested in detailed character modelling,creating and animating.

For you, Softimage would be better since it is better for character modeling.

Well, Softimage and Maya were initially two different programs created by two different companies, but both were bought by Autodesk, (3D studio Max), which will explain why Autodesk has 3 different 3D animation programs, in case you didn't know. . .

They're both great programs; both are used extensively in the industry.
Softimage has really good modeling tools, but Maya is known for its powerful animation toolset, and is the industry-standard for character animation. I can say from experience, that Maya is indeed a JOY to animate in.

They're both "complete packages," so you can model and animate characters without the need of additional software. But I guess in theory, Maya would be the "better" one to learn. I say that simply because I just see more jobs / gigs request you have experience in Maya.
